Pope Sixtus IV Della Rovere born Francesco Della Rovere was Pope from August 9, 1471 to his death in August 12, 1484. Pope Sixtus IV was a patron of arts and letters. Pope Sixtus IV accomplishments included repairing and building numerous Roman churches one building in particular was the Sistine Chapel. The group of artist that he bought together to work in the Sistine Chapel introduced the Early Renaissance into Rome. During his time Rome was transformed from a medieval to a Renaissance city.
