Piero della Francesca’s Portraits of Federico sa Montefeltro and His Wife Battista Sforza

This painting is one of the most popular pieces of art during the time of the Italian Renaissance. This diptych painting was painted by Piero della Francesca over a seven year period, he depicted the Duke and his wife. The duke was a great patron to the arts and made Urbino a well known and tasteful cultural center. The portrait view reminds us of classical portrait medals with them in the foreground with a landscape background.
