Ponte translates to the word ‘bridge’, so this is the Bridge of Sant’Angelo. Some would say that this is the most beautiful bridge in Rome. This bridge was ordered to be built by the Emperor Hadrian to be placed over the Tiber river in 136 AD. He wanted his mausoleum to connect to the city of Rome which was across the river. This bridge is also called ‘Bridge of the Holy Angel’ because there are ten statues of Angels all across the bridge that were added much after the original construction.
